Statistics, hot off the press

From the PLA blog (Public Library Association), which is doing a great job in covering ALA’s Midwinter conference for those that can’t be there, comes a post on Statistics for Librarians (specifically, to analyse e-journal usage).

These are skills that every librarian needs to have - not just to be able to conduct and write better research, but to analyse data in your library, put together informed reports, and to be able to interpret the research and reports of others. Statistics can seem overwhelming, but if you master just a few calculations and survey methodologies, you’ll be well on your way to doing everything you need to do. The Research Methods Knowledge Base is my favourite online resource for finding definitions and examples.
