My comments the other day are starting to feel very Lazy Web, because I’ve been doing a lot of talking and thinking about information management, but not actually doing much to solve the problem.
Blogtalk Downunder was a good opportunity to mention this issue, especially since one of the strongest themes at the conference was the […]

Caveat Lector is one of my favourite blogs. I’ve been reading Dorothea’s progress through library school and her recent job search for many months now. So it was truly wonderful to see today’s post on her blog. Congratulations Dorothea!
So I didn’t make another attempt at live conference blogging, and the conference is now over. To be honest, I found the conference quite overwhelming in the breadth of topics and issues that were discussed, despite being ‘just about blogging’.
But two strongs came through very clearly for me - the need for blogs to […]
There have been some fascinating papers today weaving together political science, linguistic and socio-cultural theories with the emerging discourse on blogs. I’ve taken many many pages of notes so far which I’ll type up and elaborate on here soon. One thought I did have, since there has been a lot of emphasis on the place […]
Here’s my first attempt at conference blogging. I’m at Blogtalk Downunder today and tomorrow. I’m currently listening to Austrian Thomas Berg discuss social software and blogs in organisations. The most interesting idea so far is that while blogging software right now appeals to early adopters, it doesn’t appeal to pragmatists or late majority […]
Isnt’t it nice when something happens which is a perfect illustration of something you’ve just blogged? Following on from my post the other day about the importance of language for librarians, I had a reference question about Japanese textbooks today. Being a rather over-eager librarian, I did an enormous amount of research last year before […]
Blogtalk Downunder starts this Friday in Sydney. I’m really looking forward to attending this conference, the lineup of papers is fantastic and Rebecca Blood is one of the keynote speakers. Papers are available online for those who can’t attend.
Tangentally related to my last post on managing information, I was made aware of Open Conference Systems today. OCS is produced by the University of British Columbia (aka ‘ubic’) as part of their Public Knowledge Project. I’m hoping to trial the software sometime soon. I’m co-ordinating the program for the New Librarians’ Symposium to be […]
As I mentioned several posts ago, information management has been on my mind a lot lately. I regularly use 3 different computers (two PCs, one Mac) and two paper diaries (I’ve resisted a PDA). I’ve started to move computer-specific lists like bookmarks online (to del.icio.us) so I can access them from any computer, but the […]
Here’s a very neat new app/widget for Mac - Library Books (via Library Stuff). Even neater, given the list of libraries supported in the app, my guess is that the developer is Australian. I’ll install it as soon as it supports a library I use (I’m a regular borrower from City of Sydney).
