IP Day

Things have been so hectic lately I didn’t even notice World IP Day passing me by on April 26. In a previous job, one of my roles was to coordinate information for the many days and weeks that the UN designates for various causes. World IP Day is a newer initiative of WIPO:

“The 183 WIPO Member States decided in 2000 to designate a World Intellectual Property Day to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in daily life, and to celebrate the contribution made by innovators and artists to the development of societies across the globe. ” (UN World Intellectual Property Day celebrates power of ideas)

A great declaration, but I’m not so sure that all of the topics presented at World IP Day locally express that.

One rather bizarre sub-site listed on the above site is A Day in the Life of Intellectual Property which tours through 11 Australian products and how they were created, but doesn’t shed any light on how IP helped these products prosper in the market.
