Attention lazy web

I often have to demonstrate how to do something with computers, whether that’s showing someone how to change their print settings, paragraph formatting, right up to database searches and more complex tasks. Often I will show someone the steps, and then write them out for the person to remember. eg -

To change to double spacing - Edit -> Select All, then Format -> Paragraph -> Line Spacing -> Double etc etc

This can be time consuming. Is there a way of recording these steps as I show them, and then having a program that will spit out these steps as printed instructions? I’ve used Captivate to create online tutorials to the same end, but they are in Flash, unprintable, and far too time consuming for this sort of task. Something that could be done nearly instantly would be preferable so that it could be printed quickly and given to the client.

What you need is the free camstudio software

Its creators tried to stop its distribution and turn it into commercial software but thanks to the brewster kahle’s Internet Archive you can still download it from http://web.archive.org/web/20030622102848/http://www.rendersoftware.com/download/setup20.exe
