This week I’ve found myself in Osaka, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Arizona and now New Orleans. It’s been a hectic week with all that travel. To get to ALA, my flight path was SYD-KIX-LAX-LAS-DEN-MSY which, spaced over 7 days (counting the date line) hasn’t been too bad at all.
The scariest part of the trip so far has been Los Angeles - which we actually enjoyed apart from it taking 2 hours to get anywhere on the bus.
I’m one of 200 international librarians (most of whom are Canadian) and one of about 8 Australians here. So far I’ve attended NMRT Orientation, the Vanilla Collections ACRL session, and now Shaking the Money Tree: Grant Writing for Librarians ACRL/EBSS. No notes for a while because I still write all my conference notes by hand. Pictures on Flickr soon. I made a brief detour into the enormous exhibit to drop off NLS2006 postcards at NMRT’s booth (thanks NMRT!) and to chat to people at SRRT.
ALA2006 annual
Looking forward to hearing all about it!
Fiona, I’m so jealous and can’t wait to hear about your adventures!
In the four times I’ve been to LA, the first time I hated it, the 2nd time I found it just bearable, the 3rd time I was like, ‘Hey this isn’t bad’ and the 4th time I had a blast. Next year, on my 5th visit, I’m going to be brave and hire a car as I want to check out more of the Canyons etc.
Have a wonderful time and great work with the NLS postcards!
