A while back, I made the decision to change the licensing of my work that has a Creative Commons license (even though you say you shouldn’t - I figure these things are still fluid enough to be forgiveable for now) and for all future work on the blog Flickr and wiki (other venues may differ) to be under a less-restrictive license. I’m now using a license that permits commerical use, specifically the Attribution license.
One of the consequences of this is, I believe, more opportunity for experimentation and reuse of work. I was pleased when I got this Flickr mail today which in part reads:
I am delighted to let you know that one of your photos has been selected for inclusion in the newly released second edition of our Schmap Honolulu Guide.
Schmap Guide for Honolulu is here, and here’s the photo they included:
Photo is of the Surf Room at the Royal Hawaiian at Waikiki Beach, looking across the beach to Diamond Head Crater. Christmas Day buffet, 2005.
I haven’t seen the photo in the guide yet, as it’s a download thing for Windows and I use a Mac at home (Mac guides not until next year). Still, it was kind of fun to be picked and it’s one of the very very few times I’ve had a photo of mine published.
