RFID, YouTube, and penguins

When I got back from Japan in July, I planned to write about how the JR East train system in Tokyo has a RFID system that I thought was reasonable and worked well. You can buy a rechargeable Suica (Super urban intelligent card) and swipe it as you enter and exit stations, but you can also buy RFID-equipped phones that will do the same thing. A logical and reasonable use of RFID technology.

The Suica card is accompanied by a delightful penguin mascot and advertising campaign. Until 30,000 Japanese videos were pulled from You Tube, most of the ads were there.

Not to worry, all the ads are on their official site (phew!):

Each ad shows a different way to use Suica: to buy train tickets, convenience goods, and vending machine items. Interspersed with comedic interactions with the penguin, of course. My favourite one is for JALカードSuica (a frequent flyer card).

    Hey guys,
I have an iMac G5 running tiger 10.4.7 and I an having a wierd problem. Whenever I go to a site that has an embedded youtube, flash or some kind of video, there is no sound. If it a quicktime file there is no problem. There is not sound no matter what broswer I use, firefox, camino, safari, or shiira. And keep in mind that about a week ago I was not having this issue.

    Help Would be awesome
    Thanks!

That is weird! Can’t say that I’ve ever tried to watch YouTube videos on my mac so I am not sure what the problem is.

Maybe try updating your flash player/plugins?

Or try posting this to Apple’s Discussion site.
