Huge news for connectivity in Sydney:
The NSW Government has announced it plans to install a free wireless broadband network throughout the Sydney CBD and other major centres by early 2008. Sydney Morning Herald.
Hoping this comes off. Wifi is currently very sketchy in the city - the number of wifi-enabled cafes etc in the city is very low compared to cities in the US, and it can be difficult to find free wifi beyond the State Library (and you need to get a logon for access there).
