Goals

CW asks, what are your goals?

For some time now, but more acutely since Aurora, my goal has been to improve my communication skills. I am good at talking to most people, and giving presentations, but I struggle a little when talking to Directors and Bigwigs, if I don’t have anything in particular I want to ask or say.

In short - I need to be better at elevator talk. Which is an awful corporate-type way of putting it, but it fits the need.

Like CW, I am also doing lots of writing at the moment. I have two co-authored papers in the works, and a journal article on NLS2006 (somewhat ironically on the topic of new writers’ barriers and support). And I was accepted to library school to upgrade to a second Masters’ so I will be writing a lot next semester.

In the background, I’ve been steadily adding to the outline for a possible PhD topic. I keep resisting the idea but it persists in surfacing again, as I was told long ago “I’m that way inclined”. Next semester, my husband hopes to start his PhD so I’ll be wearing my Endnote warrior and proofreading hats too.

I too have a 43 Things page that has been languishing somewhat. Most of those goals are still current.
