The good things about ALA

There’s been a lot of talk lately about reforming ALA (and I commented too), but having just finished my first year on two NMRT committees I thought I would reflect on that experience.

After having been a member of several ALIA committees over the past few years, I decided to become more involved in ALA to see if there were issues where we could share and learn from each other.

I joined two virtual-only committees, but I attended the NMRT All Committee meeting at ALA Annual in 2006 and found myself as a co-chair of Online Discussion Forum, and a member of Scholarship Research and Writing. Over the past year, I feel I’ve succeeded with bringing information to NGPAG, and sharing my experiences, especially with research and reviewing to NMRT.

Along the way, I worked with new people, and learnt a lot about how ALA works. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was definitely a positive first-year experience. Thanks NMRT!
